Today I saw a picture of my friend Kiara’s newborn son Sunny and he has just opened his eyes. He is in the NICU along with his twin brother Leo. This is early days in a journey that will last beyond my lifetime and it is very exciting to see it unfold. I can’t wait until they come home from Nova Scotia and I can see them all in person.

I also finished reading the memoir Blue Hills Remembered by Rosemary Sutcliff, which was optional reading for my Children’s Literature course. Sutcliff, who wrote Eagle of the Ninth, is a remarkable writer of historical fiction. she lived with Stills’ Disease (childhood arthritis) and spent a great deal of time in a wheelchair. Still, she had a rosy outlook on life and didn’t let this stop her from becoming a renowned writer. She experienced love, heartbreak, and happiness. It truly was inspiring to read about her tale.
