I finished The Queen’s Gambit by Walter Tevis today. The book is about a chess prodigy who wants to become international grandmaster of chess and defeat the great chess minds of the day. She has to overcome a sad childhood and the loss of her parents at a young age, and turns to pills and alcohol to cope. It’s a quick read and easily written, very clean. I felt something was missing in it, but I’m not sure what. It felt too simple. Nevertheless, I would still recommend the book for those who like chess and are looking for a good Rocky-like story.

I started taking walks on my treadmill in addition to the walks I take with my pup Zazu. It always bothered me when I used to go for long walks that I would walk until I got tired, then I’d have to walk all the way back! With a treadmill, I can step off when it’s time to. Plus, Zazu can only walk for 30-35 minutes and I’d hate to leave him at home while I continue the walk outside. This way he doesn’t feel left out. I also looked up some new kettlebell moves to try out tomorrow. All this is to say, my weight loss journey continues. This year, I’ve lost 57lbs. Most of that was done in the early part of the year, but steadily I’ve made my way down. From 314lbs on January 1, 2024 to 257lbs on September 5, 2024. My goal was to lose 50lbs this year and I’ve surpassed it already. My heaviest was in 2020 and I was 345lbs.

The future looks bright!
